Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
Join local birders Mary Parsaca and Mary Orr, for a birding walk at Los Luceros Historic Site during the property's "Dawn ’til Dusk Day." This is a unique opportunity for novice and experienced birders to bird in an area that offers access to massive old-growth cottonwoods and fantastic Rio Grande habitat. Get to know the local birds and discover new species. Los Luceros is a nearby local gem of the New Mexico Historic Sites. More than 152 species have been seen at this property, and it was once nominated as an Audubon Important Bird Area (IBA).
The cultural site is surely one of New Mexico’s most scenic and historically significant properties. Bring binoculars, a camera (optional), snacks, and water. We do have a few binoculars available to lend out. This birding trip is limited to 15 participants, so register soon! Participants should plan on meeting at Los Luceros at 7 a.m.
