The Bradbury Science Museum will highlight Engineers Week with a series of hands on activities designed to give the community a closer look at engineering in action. Programming will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Feb. 24, 25 and 26 at the museum’s demo stage and Tech Lab.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, visitors can design and test earthquake proof structures while exploring a new engagement activity featuring magnetic gears. The gears demonstrate cause and effect as motion transfers from one component to another, giving participants a chance to learn about torque, rotational direction and how force moves through a system.
Wednesday, Feb. 25, focuses on creativity and electronics with LED badge making. Visitors can also try a new activity using magnetic, Minecraft-inspired blocks that bring digital-style building into the real world. The blocks encourage STEAM skills by emphasizing geometry, spatial reasoning and structural integrity through hands on construction.
On Thursday, Feb. 26, the museum will host wind tunnel activities that explore airflow and design. A new engagement offering using Clixo products adds a multi sensory element, with snap together pieces that provide tactile and auditory feedback. The open ended, origami-like designs encourage creative problem solving and flexible structural thinking.
