PEEC Summer Family Evenings

Summer Family Evenings take place on Wednesdays in June and July at Los Alamos Nature Center! The events are free for PEEC member families and $5 for non-member families. Admission for the event is paid at the door.

Summer Family Evenings are made possible by the Del Norte LOV Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Del Norte Credit Union!

The programming list is as follows:

June 4 - Step into the Future!

Step into the future with Challenge Tomorrow from the Bradbury Science Museum! This interactive, state of the art trailer allows individuals of all ages to explore national security, space exploration, and the latest in scientific discovery. Bring your family and experience the excitement of solving real-world challenges. The future starts with curiosity! Don’t miss this fun opportunity to inspire the next generation of innovators.

June 11 - Build Backyard Games!

Join library staff for an evening of outdoor games! Make your own mages from found objects and craft supplies. Learn some new backyard games for your next cookout! Some participants may get messy with water or paint, so dress appropriately!

June 18 - Befriend Bugs!

Meet bugs and other creepy crawlers from The Santa Fe Reptile and Bug Museum at this Summer Family Evening! Attendees will move through different stations to see live critters! Wade Harrell will be on hand to answer questions and share amazing facts about these unusual animals. 

Wade Harrell is the founder of the Santa Fe Reptile and Bug Museum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating people about the earth's most misunderstood creatures.

June 25 - Drive a Robot Dog!

Celebrate ScienceFest with PEEC during this unique Summer Family Evening. Join a LANL mechanical engineer in observing and driving a “robot dog” at the Los Alamos Nature Center.

Attendees will learn about Boston Dynamics robots, which are being developed for repetitive or dangerous tasks.

July 2 - Spy Training

Join the Los Alamos STEAM Lab for a top-secret mission filled with stealthy fun. July 9:

July 9 - Get Wild About Wildlife

Learn about local critters with rangers from Valles Caldera National Preserve.

July 16 - Meet Animal Ambassadors

The New Mexico Wildlife Center will introduce native animals up close.

July 23 - Cuddle Baby Goats!

End the series with some furry fun. Meet adult and baby goats at the nature center!
