Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.
The McCauley Springs Fire, reported on June 24, has closed NM4 near Valles Caldera National Preserve. Please check NPS and USFS websites before visiting to confirm if they are open.
Join PEEC for a spring bird walk! If you have ever wondered which birds you see around the Pajarito Plateau, this is an excellent opportunity to find out. These walks are perfect for people who enjoy birding and those who are just beginning or curious. Bob Walker will select the walk area the week before the outing, depending on what has been seen flying. Please meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center to check in and carpool to the trailhead. Registration is required, and this trip is limited to 10 attendees.
Admission: Free for PEEC Members; $5 for Non-Members
