Due to ongoing dry conditions and prevailing high winds, Fire Marshal Colorado Cordova of the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) has elevated fire restrictions to Stage 2 within the boundaries of Los Alamos County to safeguard public health and safety, as well as protect lands, structures, natural and historical artifacts.

The Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) invites the community to Wildfire Day 2025 at Ashley Pond Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19. Families can explore LAFD and Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) emergency equipment and vehicles, participate in a bicycle helmet fitting, and get a close-up look at a Classic Air Medical helicopter.
Other festivities include the Elks Annual Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m., bouncy houses sponsored by Freedom Church, and special appearances by Smokey Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog, and the Easter Bunny!
A variety of organizations will present booths and activities, including Los Alamos Community Services Division, Emergency Management, LAPD and Dispatch, as well as Los Alamos National Laboratory, the U.S. Forest Service, Classic Air Medical, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
