Los Alamos County Recreation to Host New Soapbox-Style Gravity Race

Los Alamos County Recreation is thrilled to announce the first-ever FREE Annual Los Alamos Bathtub Gravity Race, set to take place in front of the Aquatic Center, on Canyon Road. This community event is scheduled for October 12th with races starting at 1:00pm. This is a free event, but pre-registration is required for both the Gravity Race and the Push Race. Don’t miss out on this fun-filled afternoon for the whole family! The last day to register for this event is Wednesday, October 9th.
Participants will face off in a double-elimination showdown divided into four age groups: 3-6, 7-11, 12-15, and 17 and up. Racers will kick off the excitement at the intersection of Central Avenue and Canyon Road, racing downhill toward the finish line at The Aquatic Center parking lot.

For the safety of all participants, kids under 15 must have a parent or guardian present. Parents of children under 6 are encouraged to lend a helping hand as needed! All participants are required to sign a liability waiver before joining the race.
Gravity Race Rules:
- Carts must have a minimum of three wheels.
- No propulsion devices other than gravity may be used.
- Helmets are mandatory for all drivers.
- Carts must have functional brakes capable of stopping the vehicle
- No sharp edges or dangerous points are allowed.
- Use of feet or hands to push the cart is prohibited.
Special Awards:
- The event will feature a prize for the best-themed cart! Be creative and bring your most unique and fun designs to the race.
- A trophy will also be awarded for the fastest time within the age group!
- In addition to the Bathtub Gravity Race, participants can also sign up for the Push Race.
The Push Race requires competitors to push their carts uphill before racing back down to the finish line, adding an extra layer of excitement to the day.
