Los Alamos Golf Course August Update
Published on August 11, 2025
The Los Alamos County Golf Course front nine has been open for play for a month, and this morning, August 11th, staff evaluated the course for any problem areas and the overall status of the course for additional play. Staff has confirmed that the front nine is holding up well and will be making a slight adjustment to the schedule. However, we feel that it is also still beneficial for the course to rest for a few days between open days.
Therefore, the Los Alamos County Golf Course will have the schedule as follows:
- Beginning Thursday, August 21st at 3:00pm, the front nine will be available for play through the weekend.
- We will continue this Thursday afternoon, opening at 3:00pm, and Friday through Sunday, 8:00am to 7:00pm schedule through September 4th. Staff will evaluate the course conditions and provide updates on use at this time.
- Tee Times for subsequent openings will be available 7 days in advance, beginning at 6:00am
- Golfers can rent a new electronic golf car while playing the front nine. However, please be aware that there are areas on the golf course that are geo-fenced off. If you are using a golf car, and you enter a geo-fenced area, it will alert you, and the GPS screen will post a message informing you to reverse out of the restricted area. If you do not leave the area, the golf car will shut down.
Please only book 9-holes if you are only going to play nine holes, so that walk-ins can be accommodated. The practice range and main putting green are open. These areas are available to golfers for practice. Range balls are available from 8:30am to 6:30pm, Monday through Saturday. The practice range closes at 4:30pm on Sundays to prep the range for mowing on Mondays.
Cottonwood on the Greens is open for “Golfer Hours” from 8:00am – 11:00am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and is also open from 11:00am – 8:00pm daily. Please visit them for lunch, dinner, or a snack inside or on the patio.
“Staff has made great strides in the last four weeks in the overall condition of the course. In regard to the longevity of the Golf Course, while some work still needs to be done, including warranty work by Mid-America, we are hopeful to have some modified play for all 18 holes by the Fall.” Stated Todd Schoeder, Owner of iConGolf Studio.
The back nine will remain closed. Los Alamos County staff has reseeded several tee boxes and greens throughout the course, which were spotty in areas, to assist with the grow-in. Additionally, there are areas on the back nine that include greens and collars, which are not yet ready to handle play. Staff and contractors will continue to review and monitor the course frequently to assess the progress of root growth in newly seeded and sodded areas, as well as the re-contoured greens.
