The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is excited to announce Nature at Night, a new weekly evening program inviting community members of all ages to explore the natural world after dark. Beginning Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the nature center will stay open late from 4 to 6 p.m. with themed activities, crafts, games, and outdoor exploration. Admission is free, and all are welcome. Held at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Rd, this new series offers families, individuals, and curious learners a chance to experience nature in a fresh way during the quieter winter hours. Each week features a different theme designed to spark discovery, creativity, and connection.

January Themes

Week 1: Winter Adaptations — January 7

Discover how animals and plants survive the challenges of winter. Hands-on stations highlight the remarkable strategies living things use to stay warm, find food, and thrive through the coldest months.

Week 2: Plants in Winter — Guided Hikes — January 14

Join naturalists for short guided walks around Kinnikinnick Park, departing every 30 minutes. Explore how local plants persist through cold temperatures, shifting light, and snow. Indoor activities will be available throughout the evening.

Week 3: Exploring Temperature — January 21

Investigate how heat and cold interact in winter and what these temperature patterns mean for the natural world. Interactive stations invite participants to experiment, observe, and learn through play.

Week 4: Star Night — January 28

Step outside to experience the winter night sky. Learn about seasonal constellations and deepen your connection to the landscape after dark through guided stargazing and night-sky activities. This program is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
