ScienceFest 2024: “Creative Energy”

Get ready to ignite your curiosity and creativity at ScienceFest 2024, presented by MainStreet and Los Alamos Creative District. From July 12-16, this year's theme, "Creative Energy," promises an exhilarating blend of science, art, and community activities designed to inspire all ages.
“This year’s theme, ‘Creative Energy,’ is about showcasing the incredible intersection of science and art in a way that engages and inspires.” Jacquelyn Connolly, executive director of Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District said. “We’re thrilled to offer something for everyone, from hands-on STEAM activities and lectures to art installations and live performances.”
On Friday, July 12, the festival kicks off with a Friday Night Concert at Ashley Pond featuring Led ZepAgain. Concurrently, from 5-9 p.m., there will be a Friday Night Market at Ashley Pond Park, offering food, beverages, handmade goods, and jewelry. There will also be an interactive augmented reality exhibit by STEMarts Lab.
Saturday, July 13, is Discovery Day at Ashley Pond & Fuller Lodge lawn, featuring STEM activities, a beer garden, and live music starting at noon. Later, Discovery After Dark: STEAM for Adults includes a science-inspired murder mystery, Augmented and Virtual Realities, and interactive challenges provided by Bradbury Science Museum and American Chemical Society. Participants will have opportunities to win prizes during the competitions. The day concludes with a Dark Night Star Party at Overlook Park.
“This festival is a fantastic opportunity for adults to tap into their inner child and explore science and art in a fun, interactive way,” said Ellyn Felton, marketing specialist at Los Alamos County. “The activities will engage and entertain all ages.”
On Tuesday, July 16, the festival concludes with Tuesdays at the Square at Central Park Square featuring music from Heather and the Bad Breaks, a beer garden, and STEAM activities.
Partner events include high level panel discussions and lectures, tea tastings, documentary and feature film screenings and more. Ongoing and special exhibits include Los Alamos History Museum Guided Walking Tours, the Very Large Array Photography Exhibition, and the Into the Realms of Possibility Exhibit at Fuller Lodge Art Gallery.
